Alison Buchanan
Soprano
British soprano Alison Buchanan, is a graduate of the Curtis Institue and the Guildhall School of music and is proud to be a Horizon artist since 1998. Alison enjoys a busy international career in opera, concert, recital and chambermusic. A winner of the Luciano Pavarotti, Washington International and Kathleen Ferrier competitions she has made débuts at the New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Glyndebourne, the Royal Opera House, the Los Angeles Opera (in I Pagliacci alongside Placido Domingo and directed by Franco Zefferelli) and Michigan Opera Theatre. She has performed under the baton of Sir. Colin Davis (after an introduction made by former Horizon Concerts director, Clive Lythgoe), Sir. Simon Rattle and Donald Runnicles to name but a few with orchestra's such as the London Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic, the Philippines philharmonic, the Macadonia Philharmonic and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Alison came to international attention when, at the last minute, she replaced Monserratt Caballé with the Royal Philharmonic at the Proms in London. She recently made her Carnegie Hall Debut and is a member of the Ritz Chamber Players (the only African American chamber music society in the US).
